The logistical details...

Hotel:

The National Puzzlers' League (pre-tax) room rate at the Red Lion is $109 per night for single and double occupancy. Triples are $129 per night, and quads are $149 per night. Reservations can be made online by calling the Red Lion Hotel reservations line at 1-800-RED-LION and asking for the National Puzzlers' League Convention room rate, or by accessing http://www.seattleredlionfifthavenue.com/, selecting Group Code in the Select Special Rate dropdown, and entering the discount code TNPL0628. In order to secure the discount room rate, reservations must be made on or before June 11, 2010. (Please note: If you are unable to book rooms three days before June 28th and three days after July 4th it is likely due to lack of availability; questions about this should be directed to the toll-free number above.)

Because we know that many people like to make an extended stay when they visit a city for Con, the discount room rate will be available for a total of 13 consecutive days. Attending members will be able to book hotel reservations starting on Friday, June 25th, and can stay until Thursday, July 8th. Please be aware that rooms are only blocked for the National Puzzlers' League from Monday June 28th until Monday July 5th, so reservations outside those dates are on a space available basis. Obviously the largest room blocks are for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, because that is when we expect the most people to be in town.

The deadline for making your hotel reservation is June 11th.

Airline:

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is a hub for Alaska Airlines, thus Alaska offers many non-stop flights to Seattle from major cities around the country (Boston, Newark, Washington National, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Austin, Dallas, Denver, Chicago O'Hare, Minneapolis, and multiple cities in Alaska, California, and Mexico). Alaska has granted The National Puzzlers' League a discount code which will take 7% off the lowest published fare from June 25th to July 8th, 2010; simply visit http://www.alaskaair.com and enter the Discount Code ECCMB1325 when making your reservation to see the discounted fares.

Airport Transportation:

When traveling to and from Sea-Tac, there are three public transportation options: taxi, Shuttle Express, and light rail.

  • Taxi cost is approximately $40 one way from the airport to downtown. More information is available at http://stitataxi.com/.
  • Shuttle Express will cost $32 one way, $54 for a pre-purchased round trip, with special offers and reservations available at http://www.shuttleexpress.com.
  • The new Light Rail service is available from the airport to downtown. The one-way cost is $2.50 per person. At the Airport, the Light Rail station is at the north end of the airport, and reached by a pedestrian walkway that goes through the garage. In Seattle, the Red Lion Hotel is located between the University and Westlake stops. The stations are underground. Take the stairs or elevator to the street, then it's about a 2 block walk. More information is available at http://www.soundtransit.org/Riding-Sound-Transit/Schedules-and-Facilities/Central-Link-Light-Rail.xml.

Convention Fee:

This year's convention fee will be $275. This covers meals and snacks from Friday night to Sunday morning, the con photo, and all of the entertainment. Checks should be made out to National Puzzlers' League and sent to Aardvark at:

Amanda O'Connor
8770 171st Ave NE
Redmond, WA 98052

When you send your check, please make sure to include your nom and whether or not you will be attending the Wednesday picnic.

The registration deadline is June 20th.
